Our Life

Our First Month With Emma Grace

Emma Sleeping

The last 5 weeks have been some of the best days of my life. That’s because on March 17, 2012 at exactly 3:58am we welcomed our first child into the world… little Emma Grace Monen was born 9lbs 8oz and 21″ long! And I must say, she is adorable.

I was going to update this right after Emma was born, then I blinked and it’s 5 already weeks later. Apparently time flies when you’re having fun. And I can already hear all you parents saying, “Just wait, the next 18 years will fly by just like that. It goes so fast.”

And I bet it does. The last 5 weeks have seemed like only a few days as we’ve enjoyed watching our little baby girl grow up right before our eyes. It’s kind of crazy to see her change so fast. One day she looks more like Lacie and the next she looks more like me.

“So are getting any sleep?”

I think we’ve been asked this question exactly 1,037 times over the last month (before that it was “So, what’s Lacie’s due date?”). So here’s how our sleep patterns have been lately…

-Go to sleep between 11:30 and midnight.

– Wake up around 2:30am to feed Emma.

– Go back to sleep around 3:00-3:30am.

– Wake up around 6:00am to feed Emma.

– Go back to sleep, or at least lay in bed, from 6:30 to 9:00am.

Every night’s a little different but we usually wake up at least twice to feed our baby. Sometimes I feel a little crazy (like last night when we went to sleep at 12:30 then woke up at 2:00 to a screaming baby) but it just takes one look at Emma’s cute little face to remind me it’s all worth it. Sleep is good. But loving our little girl is better.

And I really can’t complain. I have the luxury of working from home so I can adjust my work hours to fit our new schedule. Normally I work 9-6 but lately it’s been more like 10-7 or 11-8. So that part has been nice.

Anyway, it’s getting late and writing about sleep reminds me we need to get some. We’ve heard people say that we should, “sleep when the baby sleeps,” but we haven’t been too good at that (sounds like a great idea though!).

And here’s the part you’ve been waiting…the cutest little girl in the world, Emma Grace Monen:

It is such a pleasure, Josh and Lacie, to observe from afar your falling in love with your little girl. She will make you laugh, make you proud, make you cry, and make you pray. And she will teach you more than you ever imagined about the Father-heart of God.
